Rose crashed out of the Dem-Master Demolition Cup in the first round at wind-swept Prestonfield.
Rose started well with the wind behind them but the early pressure came to nothing and the visitors took a surprise lead after 14 minutes. A clearance caught the central defenders out and McGrillen ran clear to give Bathgate the lead.
Ten minutes later Spade dug a whole for the Rose when he was short with a pass back. McGrillen intercepted and crossed for Fraser Love to make it 2-0.
Carrigan missed the home team's best chance of the half and Rose went in two goals down at the break.
Herd reduced the arrears after being played in by McSween and a spell of concerted pressure followed.
Thistle killed the game with 15 minutes to go when McGrillen grabbed his second of the night - a well placed 20 yard drive.
