Linlithgow Rose v Cumnock
Emirates Scottish Junior Cup
Dave Baikie’s Linlithgow Rose powered through to the 5th round of the Emirates Scottish Cup in this East versus West battle at Prestonfield.
After a cagey start the home team moved into the lead in the ninth minute. Gary Livingstone picked up possession following a mistake by John McMillen, slipped past Tom Currie and hit a shot that was parried by Chris Fahey, but Tommy Coyne was on hand to convert the rebound.
Coyne came close to doubling his tally when sent clear by Roddy McLennan, but Fahey saved his first effort and Stuart McDonald made a great diving block to clear Coyne’s goal-bound second effort.
Cumnock were not really in the game as an attacking force in the first half although James Tyler did make a couple of half chances for himself.
Fahey made a fantastic save just before half-time, acrobatically tipping Coyne’s 16 yard shot over the bar.
Cumnock made a better start to the second half without giving the home team any major scares, however their cup dreams were in tatters in the 62nd minute when John Ward headed Linlithgow’s second goal from a Livingstone cross.
Ten minutes later Rose were on easy street. McLennan jinked past a couple of defenders and picked out substitute Steven Manson who slid home his team’s third goal from the edge of the box.
The Ayrshire team were on the ropes as Linlithgow pushed for further goals. Mark Bradley netted but was denied by the offside flag.
Rose had saved the best until last and sent their fans home happy with a magnificent fourth goal in the 88th minute. John Adam picked the ball up 40 yards out and went past three defenders before rifling an unstoppable 20 yard drive into the top corner of the net.
Coyne opens the scoring and Ward doubles the lead

Manson adds a third before Adam completes the scoring with a 20 yard screamer
